Who actually prepares your return?

Blaga Veleva, Enrolled Agent, prepares and reviews the returns herself. The IRS calls the EA "the highest credential the IRS awards," and says Enrolled Agents "have unlimited practice rights," which means no limit on which taxpayers, which tax matters, or which IRS offices they can handle (IRS enrolled agent information).

She brings more than 25 years in finance and taxation, a Master's in Accounting from Sam Houston State University, and years as a controller for an industrial energy company. You can read her full background on the about page.

Which kinds of returns can you bring here?

Most federal returns a household or small company files are covered. Pick the page that matches you:

Missed a year or two? That is a different conversation, covered on the unfiled returns page.

What do you get besides a filed return?

You get a second set of eyes on the things the IRS checks first. Each return is run through review software that flags entries likely to draw questions, and the math is checked so the IRS has less reason to write. Returns are filed electronically.

Blaga also looks at your withholding. If too much comes out of each paycheck, you are lending the government money for free all year, so she shows you how to adjust it. Before you leave, you get a short list of deductions people commonly miss, so next year starts better. For bigger moves, tax planning picks up where the return ends.

Do you need a Texas state income tax return?

No, not for personal income. The Texas Comptroller states that "Texas does not have a personal income tax" (Texas Comptroller). For most Houston households, the federal Form 1040 is the whole job.

Businesses are different. Texas charges a franchise tax on each "taxable entity formed or organized in Texas or doing business in Texas," with the annual report due May 15 (Comptroller franchise tax page). If you own an LLC or corporation, that report sits beside your federal return. The Texas LLC page explains how it fits.

What if your bookkeeping is not ready?

Bring what you have. A business return can only be as good as the numbers under it, so when the year's books are incomplete, the first step is to finish them. Lachezar Velev, the firm's bookkeeper, rebuilds the missing months, then Blaga prepares the return on real figures. See catch-up bookkeeping for how that works.

Can you work with the office without driving to FM 1960?

Yes. Some clients sit down at Suite 221; others never visit and send everything through the secure client portal. Both routes reach the same preparer. Clients come from Champions, Spring, Klein, Cypress, Tomball and across greater Houston, and the portal works from anywhere.

Questions

Questions people ask

Q1How do I pick a good tax preparer near FM 1960?

Ask three things: what credential the preparer holds, whether they can represent you if the IRS sends a letter, and whether the person you meet is the person doing the work. An Enrolled Agent is licensed by the IRS itself and can represent taxpayers on audits, collections and appeals.

Q2Should I use an enrolled agent to do my taxes?

If your return has moving parts (a business, rentals, a trust, income from abroad, or past IRS trouble), an Enrolled Agent is a strong fit. The same credential that covers preparation also covers representation, so you do not have to start over with someone new if the IRS asks questions.

Q3What does a tax preparer cost in Houston?

At Tax & Business Solutions the price is based on the forms being prepared, so a W-2 return and a partnership with three owners are priced very differently. There is no price list on this site. You agree on the price in the first meeting, before any work begins, and the fees are negotiable.

Q4Is an enrolled agent the same as a tax accountant?

Not quite. "Tax accountant" is a general description, while Enrolled Agent is a specific credential the IRS grants. Blaga Veleva has both sides: a Master's in Accounting from Sam Houston State University and the EA credential.

Q5Can you help if the IRS writes after my return is filed?

Yes. As an Enrolled Agent, Blaga can represent you on audits, collections and appeals. Send the letter through the portal or bring it in, and see the IRS help pages for what each problem involves.
